Frequently Asked Questions
What payment methods do you accept?

-
Credit Card: Visa, MasterCard,
Discover, or American Express right here on the
site. Alternately, you can purchase
using your credit card from one of our several online sales partners.
-
PayPal:
Some customers prefer to use PayPal,
and so we offer that option as well.
-
Money Orders: International or U.S. Money Orders from Banks, Post Offices, or Western Union, in U.S. Dollars.
-
Cashier's Checks from U.S. Banks in U.S. Dollars.
-
Personal Checks from U.S. Banks in U.S. Dollars.
Can I pay by credit card if I
live outside the USA?
Yes. Our Payment Processing System
will accept credit cards from any of these 44 countries: American
Samoa, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile,
China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Guam,
Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea-South,
Luxembourg, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway,
Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Singapore, South Africa,
Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Virgin Islands
(U.S.).
If your credit card is issued outside one of
these areas, you can still purchase our product, but you'll need to use
one of our other ordering choices: PayPal, Money Order, Cashier's
Check, or Personal Check.
What is PayPal?
PayPal is a payment service that will accept a credit card or a direct withdrawal from your bank,
and then will forward the payment to Athena America. PayPal is a trusted intermediary, and this prevents
you from having to give your credit card number to a merchant with whom you are not familiar.
I want to use PayPal, but I live outside of
the United States. What should I do?
There is a
different sign-up page
for customers outside of the United States. You can also reach the international signup page by clicking a
link in the upper right corner of your browser when you are on the sign-up page for the United States.
PayPal can only be used from these 37 countries: Anguilla, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Finland, France, Germany,
Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands,
New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom,
United States.
If you live in any other country, or if you want a more convenient payment method, you may
want to
order our products with your credit card, or by check or money order,
either from our
Purchase Page, or from one of our online sales partners.
I try to pay for my order by PayPal, but I get a message saying that the order has already been paid for.
If you are directed to PayPal to pay for your order, but you do not complete the payment process
at PayPal's website, our website gets confused and will not let you do anything else with the order.
If you are certain that you did not complete the payment process at PayPal,
the easiest thing to do is to close your web browser, start your web browser again, then place
a new order.
How will you ship my order?
Our products are software files, and they
are shipped to you by email. For this reason, it is important that you provide a correct email address
when ordering. We will not tell anyone else your email address.
We have had considerable trouble with Spam filters blocking emails that we send, so if you do not receive
your order when expected, please first check in your spam
discard bucket for email from "Athena America". If you do not
find your order email there, then please let us know, and we will promptly resend
it. Some ISP's (especially hotmail.com
and comcast.net) are unusually difficult, so if when you contact us, you can provide another email address
for us to try, that would be helpful.
When will you ship my order?
The answer to this depends on how you pay for your order:
-
If you pay using a credit card, either
directly on our website or through PayPal, your order will be shipped
by email within seconds.
-
If you pay by Cashier's Check or Money Order, your order will be shipped within hours of our receipt of your payment.
-
If you pay by Personal Check, please allow up to 10 business days after we receive your payment for your check to
clear our bank.
Why haven't I
received my product order?
Why haven't I received my Activation Code
to unlock the product?
Occasionally, the email we send you will be removed by a Spam filter
before it gets to you. (Depending on your ISP, this may
even be
done without your knowledge, so please contact them and check.) We have had
much trouble on this with hotmail.com and
comcast.net. We have also had similar problems
with other "free email account" services, such as excite.com and
yahoo.com.
Sometimes an email will bounce (be returned by an ISP
without delivering it to you) for some unknown reason.
For customers who order the product directly from Athena
America,
you should receive your order by email within 1 hour after you pay for
it. If not, please check your spam filter
(or ask your ISP about it). If you do not find your order
email there, please send a message to
us at:
customerservice@athenaamerica.com.
If you have purchased
directly from this site, you will receive your copy of the product through an
email. All customers, including those who order the product directly from
Athena America and those who purchase it from our on-line dealers, will need to
register the product with Athena America and get the product-unlocking
Activation Code. After you have registered with us, you should receive your
Activation Code within 2 hours
-- if you ordered during "Extended Daytime
Hours", which are defined as from
16:00 to 6:00 GMT (also known as UTC, Greenwich Mean Time, or Coordinated Universal Time).
If your order is placed outside the Extended Daytime
Hours, please allow up to 12 hours for us to send you the Activation Code.
If you do not receive your Activation Code within these time limits,
please send an email to
us at:
customerservice@athenaamerica.com.
How can I obtain an
Activation Code?
When we send the product to you, the email will contain a link (or URL) for our
Activation Page.
The directions on that page
will tell you how to
make the Athena CF Enabler show you the single identifying number that we need to know:
your UPID (Unique PDA Identifier). After you submit your
UPID on the Activation
Page, we will
email your product-unlocking Activation Code to you
(See the paragraph above on
Extended Daytime Hours for details of how soon you will receive your
Activation Code).
I made a mistake entering
my UPID on your
Activation Page. What should I do now?
If we have not yet emailed your Activation
Code, you may go back to
the
Activation Page and correct
the problem. If we have already emailed your Activation Code, then you will need to send an email to
customerservice@athenaamerica.com with
your corrected
UPID information, and we will send you a new Activation Code.
Does the license allow me to run the
product on multiple
Clié's?
Each license you purchase entitles you to run the
Athena CF Enabler on a
single Clié, and so the Activation Code that we issue you
will only work on the particular Clié
for which you gave us a Unique PDA ID (UPID). However, if you replace your
Clié, we will gladly issue you a new Activation Code.
Can I sell my Clié and the license to the
product with it?
Yes, you can. Just follow these steps:
-
Tell us that you have sold your Clié and license.
-
Give the buyer a copy of the product distribution file
(the file that we sent you or that you downloaded), if possible.
-
Tell the buyer that, after they select a
Hotsync User Name, they should run Athena CF then send us an email with
the new Unique PDA ID (UPID) that will be shown to them.
Product Questions: Athena CF
Enabler for the Sony Clié
Will the Product work with my CompactFlash card?
If your card is a CompactFlash Storage Card, and
not a hard-disk based "microdrive" CF card, then the answer is
almost certainly Yes. The
vast majority of CF cards work with
the Athena CF Enabler. (Note that, though we don't officially
support the hard-disk based microdrives yet, many of our customers have told us the
microdrive CF cards work fine already―in Read-Only mode. We are
working to provide support for this type of storage product, and will announce it when we
have satisfied ourselves that we can properly support the microdrive line
of CF cards.)
How can I put data onto my CF card?
Currently there are 3 options:
-
MS Import:
Use MS Import to transfer files from your PC to the Clié's MS―then
move those files from the MS over to the CF card.
-
HotSync:
Use HotSync to transfer files from PC to the Clié's RAM, or its MS, or
its CF card (through the CF Driver). [The Athena CF Enabler User's
Guide has more information on this.]
-
CF Card
Adapter: Attach the CF card directly to the PC (via a CF Card
adapter), then copy the files to the CF card and later insert it and
mount it on the Clié. [Customers with very large amounts of data
prefer to use this technique]
Can I HotSync MP3s and other files to the CF card?
Yes. Please see your copy of the
Athena CF Enabler User's Guide
for details about how to do this.
On which Clié models can the CF
Enabler run?
Version
2.0.0 of the Athena America CF Enabler is
designed for the Sony Clié models PEG-NX60, PEG-NX70V, PEG-NZ90 and,
notably, even the later PEG-NX73V and PEG-NX80V. We have written the
Athena CF Enabler so that it coexists peacefully with the built-in
Sony drivers, handling CF storage cards when they are used―and
letting the Sony driver take over when non-storage
devices are inserted in the CF slot. (Optionally, a user can let the
Sony driver take back the control of the CF slot, even for storage cards.
See your copy of the Athena CF Enabler User's Guide for details.)
Will the product work on 'sleds' that enable a
Clié
model not listed above to accept a CF card?
Sorry, no. We have no product that will enable the use of a CF card on a sled.
Do I need any special hardware to use a CF card with the
Athena Enabler?
As far as the CF slot goes, no special hardware is required, other than a
standard CF Storage Card. Either Type I or Type II are fine.
(The only limitation has to do with the hard-disk based ("microdrive")
versions of CF storage cards, the most well-known of which is the IBM
Microdrive. Since microdrives use a different writing technology
than solid-state CompactFlash storage cards, the CF Enabler is not able to
consistently write those cards. Therefore, microdrives can be read from
by the CF Enabler, but writing microdrives is not recommended.)
Additionally, the "Replace MS" function will require the temporary
insertion of a Memory Stick (any size is fine) before the Replace MS
feature can be enabled. This is due to the fact that the Replace MS
function actually disables the MS slot, and such action requires the
presence, during that disabling, of media in the slot. On the
other hand, the "Second MS" feature can be enabled without the need
for using a Memory Stick at all.
Is this a universal CF driver product?
No. There is no such thing as a universal
driver.
Each type of hardware requires its own driver. All CF Storage Cards share a common
programming interface, and thus any CF Storage Card can be used with our
driver. Non storage-based CF cards, however,
are not supported by the Athena CF Enabler. (Such cards
include GPS cards, WiFi cards, etc.) Additionally, the IBM
Microdrive (and similar hard-disk based products) do not work yet with the
Athena CF Enabler, except in Read-Only mode.
What applications support the Athena CF Enabler?
An application will support the Athena CF
Enabler if it has "multi-volume support".
Many applications already provide multi-volume support, and
other software companies are working to add such support to their applications.
If an application does not have multi-volume support, you can usually
remove the Memory Stick from your
Clié to make the application work.
Some built-in applications will work by the use of our Memory Stick
replacement
feature (called "Replace MS" on our Console window. See
above for
more) These
applications include Audio Player, Voice Recorder, and Movie Player.
(Movie Player has some problems working with the CF Enabler.) We are actively working to make more applications function with CF
storage cards.
Please keep in mind that when you purchase the CF Enabler from Athena America, all upgrades are free,
so you will continue to receive the benefit of our ongoing research and
development.
Does the CF Enabler support the built-in Clié AudioPlayer?
Yes! AudioPlayer works with the Athena CF
Enabler set in the "Replace MS" mode.
My application does not show the CF card when it is mounted. What can I do?
In the short term you can try using the application in Memory Stick
replacement ("Replace MS") mode.
In the long term, you should contact the developers of the application and ask them to add multi-volume support to their product.
Do you have plans to write a "CF Import" style utility similar to MS Import?
Yes, but the timeframe depends on our own
available resources, along with a reading on how important this feature is
to our customers. If you want to comment on this, feel free to email
us at
suggestions@athenaamerica.com.
I'm concerned about privacy issues.
What is your company's policy on this?
Our policy is available on our
Privacy Policy page.
In short, Athena America will not share any
information about you with anyone, except for the common exceptions (such as a legal requirement).
Can you do custom software development?
Yes. We can build solutions with you,
leveraging our general development know-how and our in-depth expertise
with the PDA platform. Please write to us at
sales@athenaamerica.com and we can discuss your project.
